: 1998, does not use journaling, maximum file size 2Tb, maximum filesystem 32Tb
: 2001, uses journaling
, same maxes as Ext2?
: 2008, bigger version of Ext2?
, maximum file size 16Tb, maximum filesystem 1Eb = 1024*1024 Tb; can turn journaling off
Journaling slows things down, but is safer during crash. Ext2?
or non-journaling Ext4?
after a crash needs to be checked with fsck
For a huge USB drive used for backup (and potentially very large files), I would choose:
sudo mkfs.ext4 -O ^has_journal /dev/sdb1
Perhaps for a small USB, ext2 is good enough.
